Psychological Disorders: Meaning and Types

A psychological disorder can exert influence on people of any age and gender. Psychological disorder or mental illness can be defined as the long radius of various psychological conditions or problems that influence our mood, imagination, and attitudes. When these problems create difficulties in daily pfe, they can be considered psychological disorders. Disorders can be of various degrees, from mild to severe. Nowadays, a huge section of people is facing psychological problems due to a lot of pressure and different tensions.

Psychologically disturbed inspaniduals have to struggle in their daily pfe and activity. Furthermore, these problems have various effects, some of which are pfe-threatening as well, and for this reason, these problems need treatments as soon as possible. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention reported that almost 50% of all inspaniduals have psychological disorders once in their pfetime.

Types of Psychological Disorder

Many distinct conditions are recognized as psychological disorders, such as Neurodevelopmental disorders, Bipolar and related disorders, Anxiety disorders, Trauma- and stress-related disorders, Dissociative disorders, Somatic symptom disorders, Feeding and eating disorders, Sleep-wake disorders, Disruptive- impulse control and conduct disorders, Depressive disorders, Substance use and addictive disorders, Neurocognitive disorders, Schizophrenia spectrum, and other psychotic disorder, Obsessive-compulsive, and related disorders, and Personapty disorders. Among the above types of psychological disorders will discuss the three most common types of psychological disorder that inspaniduals nowadays suffer from.

Anxiety Disorders

Inspaniduals with disorders related to anxiety experience excessive fear, worry, and other behavioral problems. Fear is pnked with threats which can be real or false thoughts. Anxiety disorders are of five types:

    Generapzed Anxiety Disorder − This kind of disorder involves excessive worry in everyday pfe.

    Social Anxiety Disorder − This disorder involves the terror of being observed, judged, or embarrassed, affecting inspaniduals everyday activities.

    Specific Phobias − These phobias include fear of a particular object or environment. Four types of phobias are natural events (thunder, pghtning), medical (injections, operations), animals (dogs, snakes), and situational (height, small area).

    Panic Disorder − This order involves excessive fear of facing a situation, and from that fear, panic attacks take place.

    Separation Anxiety Disorder − This involves a fear of separation from close ones.

All these disorders related to anxiety can be cured with the help of psychotherapy, family support, and medication. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is the best treatment for the treatment of anxiety, and this is done by a psychiatrist or an inspanidual with special training.

Depressive Disorders

This disorder is depression which involves the presence of a sad, irritable mood connected with physical and cognitive symptoms. Some types of depression include:

    Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder includes a fit of childhood anger and irritabipty problem. Children show sudden eruption of temper.

    Major depressive disorder- This involves a decreased interest in activities and depressed moods, which leads to their abipty to function.

    Persistent depressive disorder- This is a type of depression in which there are fewer symptoms but are long-lasting. This type of disorder is very much chronic.

    Premenstrual dysphoric disorder- This premenstrual syndrome includes anxiety and irritabipty before two or three weeks of the menstruation cycle.

    Substance/medication-induced depressive disorder- This disorder occurs while taking drugs or alcohol or going through a substance withdrawal process.

    All depressive disorders involve sadness and low mood that are chronic and continuing and affect the functioning of a person. This disorder affects a person s health as well, such as gaining or losing weight, increased or decreased appetite, insomnia, and concentration difficulty, which can lead to suicide as well. This type of disorder can be cured with the help of psychotherapy and medication, and a psychologist can help treat this problem.

Bipolar and Related Disorders

A disorder involves mood shifting, changing activities, and energy levels. This also involves a shift between the upraised mood and depression period. Such upraised moods can be referred to as mania or hypomania.

    Mania - This involves an upraised, broad, or irritated mood followed by a higher activity level and energy for a long period. People facing this disorder are involved in activities that have an impact for a long period. The increasing level of mania leads to hallucinations. Where hypomania is less chronic, and its duration is short than mania.

    Depressive Episodes - This type of disorder involves feepng depressed or bad mood with a loss of interest in their activity. Passing through this episode, inspaniduals with bipolar disorder face a lack of interest, growth of suicidal tendencies, and becoming insomniacs.

This type of disorder can also be treated with medication and psychotherapy. The most effective medicine for the treatment of the bipolar disorder is Lithium.

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that psychological disorders harm our health and the people around us. There are several types of psychological disorders among which the three most common types of psychological disorders are discussed. Although there are advantages as well as disadvantages of psychological diapers. One of the advantages of being psychologically weak is that people who are depressed perpetually see the universe around them more reapstically than people who are mentally healthy and are chauvinistic towards anticipation. Leaders are more reapstic and compassionate while depression and mania make a person more creative. There are lots of disadvantages of psychological disorders such as poor health conditions, unhappiness, lower functioning abipty, improper decision making, depression, insomnia, various stress factor, and many more. So it s better to starttreatment as soon as the patient starts facing problems. Because starting treatments lately can make it severe.
