Writing a One-Step Expression For a Real-World Situation
An algebraic expression is a combination of letters, numbers and operations without an equation or inequapty sign.
If the length of part of a ruler is x cm and the length of the remaining part is 36 cm, then write a one-step expression to represent the total length of the ruler.
Solution
Step 1:
The lengths of the parts of the ruler are x cm and 36 cm.
Step 2:
A one-step expression representing the total length of the ruler is x + 36.
If John has $y in his wallet and $100 in his bank, then write a one-step expression to represent the total amount John has.
Solution
Step 1:
The amount John has in his wallet = $y
The amount John has in bank = $100
Step 2:
A one-step expression representing the total amount John has is y + 100.
