Evaluating an Expression With One Operation and an Exponent
Evaluating an Expression With One Operation and an Exponent
In this lesson, we learn ways lto evaluate algebraic expressions that involve one operation and an exponent.
Evaluate the algebraic expression 3 + x2; for x = 2
Solution
Step 1:
Plug in the value of x as 2 in the expression.
3 + x2 = 3 + (2 × 2) = 3 + 4 = 7
Step 2:
So, for x = 2, 3 + x2 = 7
Evaluate the algebraic expression y + 23; for y = 5
Solution
Step 1:
Plug in the value of y as 5 in the expression.
y + 23 = 5 + (2 × 2 × 2) = 5 + 8 = 13
Step 2:
So, for y = 5, y + 23 = 13
